UTS Child Care Inc. (UTSCC) is an Incorporated Association and is a registered Charity. It was set up by the University of Technology, Sydney as an organisation to plan, operate and manage the child care facilities of the University. While it is associated with the University and all land and buildings used for child care are the property of the University, UTSCC is a separate legal entity from the University. UTS Child Care Centres are community-based, and as such they are not restricted to parents who are students or staff at UTS. In addition to being open to families from the local community, UTSCCInc. has an arrangement with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation to secure 25 places across UTS Child Care services for children whose parent/s work at the ABC. Membership of the Association is open to any parent who has a child enrolled in care, any staff member of UTSCC plus any past or present staff member of student of the University and any other person accepted as a member by the Board. Any member has a right to attend all general meetings of the Association and may normally attend all meetings of the Board except those meetings designated by the Board as closed The Board of UTS Child Care Inc. includes representation from the University, the Students Association and the UTS Union, as well as representatives of the ABC and parent representatives from each of the individual centres. The Board takes the legal responsibility for the operation of all UTSCC services, and guides the operations of those services to ensure that the Mission of the Association is fulfilled. "The provision of affordable high quality children's services which meet the needs of the UTS community." In particular, the Board :
As well, each child care centre has a Centre Committee. These committees provide a forum for representation of staff and parents at each centre. (please note that the word "parents" is used to denote all adult family members who are involved in the care of the child and is not confined to the child's biological parents) Parents using any child care service provided by UTSCC are given opportunities and encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the operation of the service. The Centre Committee represents the views of parents and staff at the centre and which regularly holds meetings which are also open to all parents or staff at the service, to discuss matters of interest and relevance regarding child care services at that service and at UTS generally. These Committees each nominate two representatives to the Board. Hence, Committee representatives form a majority of Board members and are the major source of input for decisions taken by the Board. Major decisions of the Board must be made after consultation with Centre Committees.
